About the Role:

We’re currently recruiting for a dedicated Youth and Family Support Worker to join Peterborough City Council, based at Sand Martin House, supporting the Social Work Teams within Young People’s Safeguarding.

The successful candidate will work directly with young people and their families, providing targeted support, parenting guidance, direct interventions, positive activities and practical assistance.

You will work collaboratively with social workers and partner agencies to help reduce risks and improve outcomes for young people and families. The role will focus on supporting young people and families affected by issues including family breakdown, homelessness, child and young person exploitation, mental health crisis and serious youth violence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work alongside young people and their families to understand their needs and provide appropriate support
• Provide parenting support and practical guidance to parents and carers
• Deliver direct interventions tailored to individual needs
• Organise and deliver positive activities that encourage engagement, confidence and wellbeing
• Provide practical support to young people and families
• Work closely with Social Work Teams within Young People’s Safeguarding
• Develop positive and trusting relationships with young people and families
• Work effectively with multi-agency and partnership services
• Support families to reduce the risk of family breakdown
• Support young people who may be at risk of homelessness, exploitation, mental health crisis or serious youth violence
• Contribute to safeguarding and risk management plans
• Undertake visits to young people in the community in line with the needs of the service
• Maintain effective communication and accurate records
• Work flexibly and respond to the changing needs of young people and families

Requirements:

• Experience within youth work, family support, social care, safeguarding or a related environment
• Experience supporting young people and families with complex or challenging circumstances
• Ability to build strong, professional and trusting relationships with young people and families
• Experience delivering interventions and providing practical and parenting support
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-agency team
• Good understanding of safeguarding and risk management
• Strong communication and record-keeping skills
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle required
• Enhanced DBS required
