About the Role:
We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client, Darlington Borough Council, for an exciting opportunity within their Childrenβs Services team as a Specialist Family Support Worker.
As part of the Families First Reform Programme, Darlington is piloting innovative approaches within statutory social care, including the introduction of alternatively qualified (non-Social Worker) practitioners undertaking statutory Child in Need work under the guidance and supervision of experienced Social Work Team Managers.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced practitioners who are passionate about supporting children, young people, and families to achieve positive outcomes while developing their skills within a supportive statutory social care environment.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Undertake children and family assessments
β’ Hold and manage Child in Need cases
β’ Work directly with children, young people, and families to provide support and intervention
β’ Contribute to achieving positive outcomes for children and families
β’ Maintain accurate case records and statutory documentation
β’ Participate in meetings, reviews, and multi-agency planning processes
β’ Promote safeguarding and the welfare of children at all times
β’ Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to deliver effective support
Requirements:
β’ Experience working with children, young people, and families
β’ Knowledge of Child in Need processes and family intervention work
β’ Strong assessment, communication, and relationship-building skills
β’ Ability to manage a caseload and maintain accurate records
β’ Understanding of safeguarding principles and child-centred practice
β’ Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
β’ Commitment to improving outcomes for children and families
