Supply Care Solutions is currently recruiting for an experienced Family Court Adviser (A14) to join a dedicated team supporting children and families involved in Family Court proceedings across Essex.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Social Worker with a strong background in Family Court work who is passionate about safeguarding children and ensuring their voices remain at the heart of decision-making.

The Role

As a Family Court Adviser, you will provide independent, evidence-based advice to the Family Court, undertaking complex assessments and ensuring children’s welfare remains central throughout proceedings.

Working closely with children, families, legal professionals and partner agencies, you will prepare high-quality reports, analyse safeguarding concerns and make recommendations that support the best possible outcomes for children.

This role offers a varied caseload across Public Law, Private Law and Work After First Hearing (WAFH).

Hybrid Working

This position offers an excellent work-life balance with a flexible hybrid working pattern:

✅ 2 days working remotely from home
✅ 1–2 days based at the Chelmsford office
✅ 1–2 days visiting children and families across Essex, attending court hearings and professional meetings as required

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the child’s independent representative throughout Family Court proceedings.
• Complete comprehensive assessments of children and families.
• Analyse complex safeguarding concerns and identify levels of risk.
• Prepare detailed, evidence-based court reports and recommendations.
• Present professional opinions confidently within Family Court.
• Undertake direct work with children to ensure their wishes and feelings are heard.
• Work collaboratively with parents, carers, Local Authorities and legal professionals.
• Maintain accurate case records and documentation.
• Manage a varied caseload while meeting statutory timescales.

Areas of Practice

Work After First Hearing (WAFH)

• Complete detailed assessments following the first hearing.
• Undertake direct work with children and families.
• Prepare comprehensive reports for court.
• Provide ongoing recommendations that promote positive outcomes for children.

Public Law

• Act as the Children’s Guardian during Care Proceedings.
• Assess safeguarding concerns and levels of risk.
• Represent the child’s wishes and best interests.
• Provide independent advice and recommendations to the Family Court.

Private Law

• Complete safeguarding assessments relating to child arrangements.
• Assess welfare concerns involving parents and carers.
• Support families to remain child-focused.
• Advise the court on arrangements that promote children’s welfare.

Requirements

Applicants must have:

✔ A recognised Social Work qualification (Degree in Social Work, DipSW or equivalent)
✔ Current Social Work England Registration
✔ Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualifying experience working with children and families
✔ Significant Family Court experience
✔ Strong knowledge of Public Law and Private Law
✔ Experience completing Section 7 Reports and/or Care Proceedings work
✔ Excellent assessment, analytical and risk management skills
✔ Strong report writing and communication skills
✔ Excellent case management and organisational abilities
✔ Good IT skills and experience using electronic case management systems
✔ Ability to work confidently with complex and sensitive cases

Interview Process

Successful candidates will attend an online interview consisting of:

• Two interviewers
• Six competency and knowledge-based questions covering Public Law and Private Law
• Questions relating to:

  • Section 7 Reports
  • Care Proceedings
  • Safeguarding
  • Risk Assessment
  • Professional decision-making within Family Court work

Applicants who do not currently live in Essex should be prepared to explain how they will travel to:

• Visit children and families across Essex
• Attend the Chelmsford office
• Attend court hearings and professional meetings throughout the county
