About the Role:
Supply Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join a dynamic Public Protection team in North London.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Environmental Health professional to play a key role in protecting and improving the health, safety, and wellbeing of residents, workers, businesses, and visitors across the borough.
The successful candidate will undertake complex Health and Safety investigations, Food Safety inspections, enforcement activities, and public health interventions while ensuring the council meets its statutory responsibilities and regulatory obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Carry out complex Health and Safety investigations and enforcement activities.
β’ Conduct Food Safety inspections across the borough in accordance with legislative requirements and Food Standards Agency guidance.
β’ Investigate complaints, service requests, accidents, dangerous occurrences, and public health concerns.
β’ Investigate food hygiene, food safety, infectious disease, drainage, pest control, refuse, and environmental health matters.
β’ Liaise with Outbreak Control Teams and partner agencies regarding notifiable diseases and public health incidents.
β’ Prepare, issue, and serve statutory notices and enforcement documentation.
β’ Gather evidence in accordance with statutory requirements, including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).
β’ Prepare legal case files and make recommendations for civil and criminal proceedings, including prosecutions.
β’ Act as a professional witness at Courts, Tribunals, and other hearings when required.
β’ Undertake inspections of food premises and associated land, using risk-based assessment techniques.
β’ Provide Home Authority advice and support to food businesses.
β’ Review plans, licensing applications, and planning submissions as a responsible authority.
β’ Develop and maintain effective working relationships with businesses, residents, partner agencies, and regulatory bodies.
β’ Deliver food hygiene and health and safety advice, education, and training to businesses, schools, and community groups.
β’ Support service improvement initiatives, mentoring, coaching, and technical development of colleagues.
β’ Prepare reports, presentations, briefings, and recommendations for managers and stakeholders.
β’ Participate in out-of-hours services when required.
β’ Promote high standards of customer care and service delivery.
β’ Ensure accurate record keeping, database management, and performance reporting.
β’ Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, strategies, and guidance documents.
β’ Wear appropriate Council uniform and personal protective equipment when carrying out duties.
Requirements:
β’ Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent recognised qualification.
β’ Registration and eligibility for membership of the relevant professional body.
β’ Significant experience within Environmental Health, Food Safety, and Health & Safety enforcement.
β’ Strong knowledge of Food Safety legislation, Health and Safety law, Public Health requirements, and enforcement procedures.
β’ Experience conducting complex investigations and enforcement activities.
β’ Experience preparing legal case files and presenting evidence in court proceedings.
β’ Knowledge of infectious disease control and public health interventions.
β’ Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
β’ Strong organisational and case management abilities.
β’ Experience using environmental health and regulatory databases and IT systems.
β’ Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
β’ Commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
β’ Full UK Driving Licence desirable.
