About the Role:

Supply Care Solutions are delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Deputy Head of Building Control (Class 3 Specialist) on behalf of our client in North London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced Building Control professional to take a senior leadership role within a dynamic Planning & Building Control service. The successful candidate will lead and manage a team of inspectors, oversee complex and high-risk building projects, ensure compliance with current legislation, and act as a key liaison with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR).

The role will also involve deputising for the Head of Building Control, providing strategic leadership, and supporting the delivery of a high-quality, customer-focused Building Control service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and supervise a team of Building Inspectors, Specialist Inspectors and Trainee Inspectors
• Undertake specialist technical assessments and make decisions on Building Regulations compliance
• Lead the service’s relationship with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) and associated regional hubs
• Oversee performance reporting, registration requirements and participation in Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs)
• Manage a portfolio of complex, high-risk and in-scope building projects
• Carry out plan appraisals and site inspections in accordance with relevant legislation and technical standards
• Investigate complaints, dangerous structures, unauthorised works and building regulation contraventions
• Initiate and manage enforcement actions, including issuing notices and preparing evidence for legal proceedings
• Respond to dangerous structures incidents as part of the emergency rota service
• Provide expert advice to businesses, residents, elected members and stakeholders
• Support the development and promotion of the Building Control service to encourage business growth
• Deputise for the Head of Building Control when required
• Mentor, train and develop members of the Building Control team
• Contribute to service improvement initiatives and ISO 9001 quality management standards

Requirements:

• Extensive experience within Building Control, including management and supervision responsibilities
• Registered Building Inspector – Class 3 Specialist (or equivalent validated competence)
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Building Act 1984, Building Safety Act 2022, Building Regulations 2010 and associated legislation
• Experience managing high-risk and complex building projects
• Strong understanding of the Building Inspector Competence Framework (BICoF) and Code of Conduct
• Experience of enforcement activities and legal proceedings relating to Building Control matters
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to lead, motivate and develop a multidisciplinary team
• Chartered membership of a relevant professional body or working towards accreditation
• Ability to respond flexibly to operational requirements, including participation in emergency response rotas
