About the Role:
Milton Keynes Council is currently seeking a qualified and experienced Children’s Social Worker to join its Family Support Team within Children’s Social Care. This is an excellent opportunity for a committed and passionate practitioner to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children, young people, and their families within a supportive and well-established local authority.

The service operates using the Signs of Safety framework and has a strong family support ethos, focusing on keeping children within their family networks wherever possible. There are currently nine Family Support Teams, and the council is expanding its workforce to meet increasing service demand. The role offers hybrid working, with an expectation of 2–3 days per week office-based.

Key Responsibilities:
• Act as the allocated social worker for up to 19 children and young people subject to Child in Need, Child Protection, and/or Child Looked After plans
• Complete statutory assessments including Children and Families Assessments, risk assessments, parenting assessments, and sibling assessments
• Develop, implement, and review care plans in partnership with children, families, and multi-agency professionals
• Promote the welfare and safeguarding of children in line with the Children Act 1989
• Represent the local authority in public and private law proceedings, including preparing court statements, care plans, and providing oral evidence
• Chair Child in Need and Core Group meetings and contribute to multi-disciplinary decision-making
• Support duty responsibilities as directed by the Team Manager during office hours
• Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality case records in line with statutory requirements

Requirements:
• Recognised Social Work qualification (Degree in Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent)
• Registered with Social Work England
• Proven experience in children’s social work, with a strong background in family support and safeguarding
• Sound knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
• Ability to manage a complex caseload effectively
