Job Overview:
Essex County Council is looking for a Locum Social Worker to join our Family Support and Protection team. This role is ideal for an experienced social worker who is passionate about improving the lives of children and families through early intervention, safeguarding, and collaborative support.
You will work within a multi-disciplinary setting, providing a range of support services to children and families, helping them to build resilience, overcome barriers, and create brighter futures. This is a community-based role where you will work directly with children, young people, and their families in the local area, delivering assessments, support plans, and safeguarding interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess complex social care needs and provide effective support to children and families, ensuring their welfare and safeguarding needs are met.
- Develop support plans that are child-centred and focus on building resilience, independence, and positive outcomes for children and families.
- Work within statutory frameworks, ensuring compliance with legal and policy standards, and determining when statutory intervention is necessary.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including other social workers, community services, and the voluntary sector, to deliver effective solutions for families.
- Conduct assessments of children’s needs and risks, and implement responses to safeguard their welfare, providing interventions as appropriate.
- Proactively contribute to multi-agency meetings, case discussions, and planning processes to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for families.
- Effectively communicate professional assessments and decisions, both in writing (reports, case notes, and court statements) and verbally.
- Work closely with families to support early intervention and prevent escalation of issues, helping families gain the tools they need for long-term success.
- Engage in strategic planning, influencing decision-making and contributing to the development of service delivery in the team.
Key Experience & Qualifications:
- Social Work qualification: Degree, Masters, Diploma in Social Work (CQSW, CSS, or equivalent).
- Current registration with Social Work England.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in social work, ideally with children and families, demonstrating an ability to manage complex and sensitive cases.
- Experience with child protection and family support interventions, and the ability to manage cases within the statutory framework.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, colleagues, and external agencies.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
- A commitment to continuous professional development and working in line with current best practice and safeguarding standards.
Additional Requirements:
- Full driving licence and access to a car, or ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.
- Willingness to travel throughout Essex and beyond as required, including during emergencies.
