Location: Somerset

Job type: Locum

Hours: Full time

Overview:

Somerset County Council have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Social Worker to join our Assessment team in Sedgemoor. You will be completing the Child and Family Assessments with families who have just been referred to Children’s Social Care, and working with the family until they are either stepped down to alternative services, or transfer to our Safeguarding teams to be supported for longer.

You will be working in a team which is predominantly permanently staffed: this cover is required because a permanent member of staff has been seconded as part of their career development. Sedgemoor Assessment is made up of two teams who work closely alongside each other and function as one in order to cover duty work, respond to urgent situations, and share practice expertise. Our Safeguarding teams use the Family Safeguarding model, and the adult-focussed practitioners working in those teams are available for advice and support to Assessment workers as well.

Manageable caseloads let you be the innovative and creative social worker you want to be – undertaking direct work with children and young people to hear their voice and understand their experiences. You will work with parents and the wider family network, with access to Family Group Conferencing, to support them to identify strengths, tackle problems and change interactions and behaviours. With skilled Team Managers, you’ll be well supported with regular and reflective group and personal supervision.

What we can offer you…

  • Friendly and supportive teams, made up of staff with a range of experience, focused on improving outcomes for children and supporting children wherever possible to remain within their families
  • Regular and good quality CPD and training
  • We’re supporting flexible working arrangements and our offices meet the Covid-19 Secure standards. Up-to-date technology is provided to help you stay connected to your team and manager through virtual meetings, team check-ins and service sessions.
