💰 Rate/Salary: Up to £40.00 per hour (dependent on experience)

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Social Worker to join Torbay Council’s Assessment & Intervention Team. This is a frontline role responsible for undertaking statutory assessments and delivering short-term, outcome-focused interventions to children and families in need of support and protection.

Key Responsibilities:
• Undertake timely and robust Child & Family Assessments in line with statutory requirements, identifying risks and protective factors
• Develop clear, evidence-based plans that respond to the identified needs of children and their families
• Engage directly with children, young people, and their families to build meaningful relationships that inform assessment and planning
• Deliver short-term interventions to support families, promote resilience, and reduce the need for long-term involvement
• Work collaboratively with professionals across education, health, and police to manage risk and coordinate support
• Present assessments and recommendations at legal planning meetings, strategy discussions, and court proceedings where required
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in line with statutory guidance and Torbay Council’s policies
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with safeguarding procedures, statutory responsibilities, and national best practice standards

Requirements:
• Minimum of 3 years post-qualifying experience in frontline statutory children’s social work
• Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and associated legislation
• Skilled in risk assessment, decision-making, and effective case presentation
• Ability to work confidently in a fast-paced, multi-agency environment
• Registered with Social Work England
• Able to commit to regular on-site working in Torbay (this is not a remote role)
