Job Description:

Suffolk County Council is seeking a Senior Social Worker to join its Forest Heath Social Care Team. This role involves a combination of duty and assessment work, alongside longer-term cases, specifically focusing on Child in Need and Child Protection. You will be responsible for managing a caseload, assessing the needs of children and families, developing plans to improve outcomes, and ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals.

As a Senior Social Worker, you will be expected to demonstrate expert knowledge in child protection procedures, legislation, and assessments. You will also need to provide guidance and support to junior staff members and collaborate with other professionals in the multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive assessments for Child in Need and Child Protection cases.
• Develop, implement, and review child protection plans, ensuring that they are in the best interests of the child.
• Provide guidance and supervision to junior social workers and staff within the team.
• Manage a mixed caseload that includes duty work and longer-term cases.
• Ensure compliance with local authority policies and legal requirements.
• Work collaboratively with families, colleagues, and other agencies to safeguard children and promote positive outcomes.
• Engage in reflective practice, continuing professional development, and team meetings.

Requirements:

• Social Work degree and Social Work England registration.
• Significant experience in a similar social work role, specifically in Child in Need and Child Protection.
• Demonstrable experience in a senior role, providing support and supervision to colleagues.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, such as the Children Act 1989, Children and Families Act 2014, and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.

Additional Information:

• This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of 3 days per week spent in the office at West Suffolk House, Bury St Edmunds.
• The hourly rate for this position ranges from £35 to £38 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
