Essex County Council is seeking a dedicated Locum Social Worker to join the Family Support & Protection team in Mid Essex on a temporary basis for an initial period of 3 months. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and well-being of children, young people, and families, helping protect them from neglect and abuse while supporting their resilience and brighter futures.

About the Role:
Children and Families services at Essex County Council are committed to developing and promoting the welfare of children and families in a collaborative and compassionate environment. You will work closely with partners to deliver a range of early help, family support, and effective social work interventions, helping to remove barriers and build resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess complex social care needs and provide tailored support to children and families.
• Develop support plans that build resilience and create long-term solutions for children, young people, and their families.
• Work within the statutory legal framework, determining when statutory intervention is necessary.
• Build effective relationships with internal and external partners, stakeholders, and the voluntary sector to ensure children and families receive appropriate support.
• Conduct assessments and plan responses to safeguard children and young people, ensuring their welfare is promoted.
• Adopt a child-centred approach that promotes early intervention, prevention, and independence.
• Actively participate in inter-agency planning, decision-making, and case discussions.
• Communicate assessments and professional judgments clearly in writing and orally, including report writing and court statements.
• Support the strategic aims of working with families, communities, and individuals to improve their quality of life.

About You:

• Experienced registered social worker, educated to degree level.
• Ability to work in line with professional standards and statutory guidelines.
• Strong experience in conducting assessments, safeguarding, and making decisions on intervention.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multiple agencies and partners.
