Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our Afghan resettlement scheme as a Support Worker. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting Afghan families who are new to the UK, providing essential support as they settle into their new communities in Manchester. This role requires a candidate who can start immediately and is capable of travelling across Manchester to visit families in their homes or temporary accommodations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Home Visits: Regularly visit Afghan families in their homes or temporary apartments to provide support and guidance.
• Financial and Administrative Assistance: Help families with setting up and maintaining utility bills, council tax, and ensuring their rent accounts are in payment.
• Universal Credit Support: Assist families in applying for Universal Credit, regularly checking their UC journals, and liaising with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
• Education and Healthcare Coordination: Support families in applying for school places and registering with local GPs.
• Safeguarding: Ensure all activities adhere to safeguarding policies, maintaining a safe environment for families.
• Liaison with Agencies: Coordinate with various agencies such as Social Services, the police, the Home Office, and educational institutions to provide comprehensive support to families.
Requirements:
• Car Driver: A valid driver’s license and access to a car are essential as the role involves traveling across the Greater Manchester area.
• Experience in Social Support: Previous experience working with vulnerable groups, particularly refugees or immigrants, is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Safeguarding: A strong understanding of safeguarding principles and practices.
• Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Administrative Skills: Competence in managing financial records, applying for benefits, and liaising with various agencies.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of Dari or Pashto is a plus but not required.
