About the Role:
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Independent Child Protection Chair to join Milton Keynes Council on a full-time basis. This is a key safeguarding role offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-quality child protection practice within a well-established local authority.
The role is primarily office-based at the Civic Offices, Milton Keynes, with some flexibility to work from home between conferences where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Chair child protection conferences and related meetings in line with statutory guidance and local safeguarding procedures
β’ Ensure all discussions are child-focused, timely, and outcome-driven
β’ Provide independent oversight and professional challenge to ensure risks are clearly identified and addressed
β’ Ensure child protection plans are robust, proportionate, and focused on improving outcomes for children and young people
β’ Work collaboratively with social care, health, education, police, and partner agencies to support effective multi-agency decision-making
β’ Confidently manage complex and sensitive discussions, maintaining a professional and respectful approach
β’ Challenge practice constructively to promote continuous improvement and best practice
β’ Ensure accurate recording, quality assurance of plans, and adherence to statutory timescales and safeguarding standards
Requirements:
β’ Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration
β’ Significant experience of chairing child protection conferences within a local authority setting
β’ Strong understanding of child protection legislation, statutory guidance, and safeguarding procedures
β’ Excellent analytical, communication, and decision-making skills
β’ Confidence to provide independent challenge while maintaining effective professional relationships
β’ Ability to manage complex caseloads and sensitive multi-agency discussions
