🔍 About the Role

Walsall Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Homeless Officer to join their Housing and Welfare Office. You’ll be at the front line of delivering a customer-focused housing options service to individuals and families facing homelessness.

This is a vital role where your expertise will help people find safe and sustainable housing, while ensuring all work complies with housing legislation.

🛠️ Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive housing options advice and support
• Conduct assessments under Part 6 & Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996
• Negotiate with landlords, agencies, and family members to prevent homelessness
• Assess emergency housing needs and arrange temporary accommodation
• Manage a caseload and maintain detailed, accurate records

✅ What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience in a housing-related role, ideally focused on homelessness
• Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 – Parts 6 & 7
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to work from the Civic Centre on duty days
