Job Summary:

THE SERVICE

Children and Adolescence Mental Health Services (CAMHS) are provided by Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust across the entire county. The CAMHS service is divided into 5 service divisions as follows:

  1. North centred on Stevenage,
  2. South including Watford and Borehamwood,
  3. East including Welwyn Garden City and Hoddesdon,
  4. West including St. Albans and Hemel Hempstead
  5. Specialist Adolescent Services (Forest House Adolescent Unit, Home Treatment Team, C-CATT, DBT team, CAMHS Community Eating Disorder Service, Targeted Team, Forensic Adolescent Practitioners and Mental Health in Schools Teams).

The post holder will be based across the West Child and Family Clinic under the clinical supervision of a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.

The Child and Family Clinics accept referrals from a number of sources including General Practitioners, Social Workers, Health Visitors and Consultant Paediatricians. The teams are multi-disciplinary including Child

JOB PURPOSE

The post holder will support the team by managing a delegated caseload of service users that have an established diagnosis and treatment plan for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). The post holder will provide on-going appointments, prescribe medication as necessary and undertake all associated physical and mental health monitoring.

The post holder will work closely with the wider CAMHS team and the clinical Pharmacist lead for the CAMHS service.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for managing a case load of service users that have an established diagnosis and treatment plan for ADHD formulated by the Consultant. The post holder will provide on-going appointments, prescribe medication as necessary and undertake all associated monitoring.

Initially the scope of practice for the post holder would be to manage the treatment of ADHD. This may be extended to other diagnoses based on education, training, development and achievement of competence.

Undertake all relevant physical health monitoring associated with ADHD treatment e.g. height, weight, blood pressure and pulse. This may be extended to patients not on their own caseload.

To modify the treatment plan with respect to drug therapy once trained in diagnostic tools for ADHD management.

To act as a core member of the multidisciplinary CAMHS team working alongside doctors, psychologists and attending medical reviews and other clinical case review sessions across a geographical area.

To provide specialist education and training to consultants, other prescribers, other health care professionals, clients, relatives and carers.

Design and delivery of psycho educational sessions for parents and carers, GP and schools.

The post holder will support the implementation of the shared care pathway for service users with ADHD across primary and secondary care.

The post holder will ensure cost effective prescribing across CAMHS services.

The post holder will support the implementation and monitoring of the trust Medicines Optimisation and Pharmacy Strategy with respect to CAMHS services.

Investigate medication related incidents within CAMHS services and produce remedial action plans and undertake risk assessments if required.

Undertake and support the Consultant Psychiatrist with research and innovation projects.
