This is a new role created as part of the modernising and organisational changes of mental health services in West Sussex. A key part of the redesign was the implementation of a “Hub and Spoke” model that provides a 24-hour AMHP service, 365 days a year.
The postholder will be required to undertake Mental Health Act Assessments as part of a rolling rota shift pattern as well as the role of the lead practitioner on a shift, using their specialist knowledge to triage work coming into the hub. The successful candidate will be working within a service where the emphasis is the delivery of a timely, responsive and legally compliant intervention, following requests for Mental Health Act assessment. Requests are received from a range of partnership agencies and professionals, as well as members of the public. The ability to triage, risk assess and manage competing demands is a fundamental core requirement.
As part of this new service you will have support from the Service Manager and Hub Team Manager. Regular individual and peer supervision, commissioned specialist training will be available to enable you to maintain your knowledge and remain aware of any changes in legislation to enhance your practice.
The Hub consists of a Team Manager and two Hub AMHPs who work 9am-5pm and eight Hub AMHPs who work on a rolling rota, over a 24hr period. Shifts will typically be early and late. You will be expected to work closely alongside colleagues in Crisis Teams, general acute hospitals, Sussex Police, South East Coast Ambulance service (SECAMB) and acute in-patient units. You will be expected to work within organisational, policy and legislative requirements. You will be required to work within the Standard Operational Procedures Policies and Processes.
