About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Family Support Worker to join a new and exciting trial service supporting Kinship Carers and children across Darlington.

This newly created role forms part of a Kinship Local Offer, providing practical, emotional and specialist support to carers and children following a Special Guardianship Order (SGO) or Child Arrangements Order (CAO).

Key Responsibilities

As a Family Support Worker, you will provide 1:1 support to kinship carers and children, helping families access the services, advice and resources they need to thrive.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting kinship carers with education and accessing relevant services
• Providing support around specific childcare and child development needs
• Offering advice and guidance around maintaining family relationships
• Supporting carers to access the Adoption Support Fund
• Facilitating and coordinating access to support through the fund
• Signposting carers to relevant training and development opportunities
• Providing practical and emotional support to carers and children
• Building positive relationships with families and partner services
• Identifying additional support needs and connecting families with appropriate services
• Working flexibly across the borough to meet the needs of families

🚗 Travel around the Darlington Borough will be required, therefore a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.

Requirements

We are looking for someone with:

• Experience supporting children, families or carers
• An understanding of the needs and challenges faced by Kinship Carers
• A genuine passion for supporting children and families
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• The ability to provide practical and person-centred support
• Knowledge of relevant family support services and resources
• The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle – ESSENTIAL

⭐ Previous experience working with Kinship Carers would be highly desirable.
