About the Role:

We’re currently recruiting for an experienced Children’s Senior Practitioner to join Shropshire Council’s Children Looked After Service on a temporary basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Children’s Social Worker / Senior Social Worker to contribute to the delivery of high-quality services for children and young people who are looked after.

The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload, undertake assessments, complete statutory visits, progress care and pathway plans, and work collaboratively with children, families, carers and partner agencies to safeguard children and achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain personal performance and professional development with support from the Team Manager
• Undertake a range of assessments informed by direct intervention and meaningful engagement with children and families
• Develop, progress and review children’s care plans and pathway plans
• Undertake statutory visits to children placed at home, in foster care and residential placements in line with Children Looked After (CLA) requirements
• Manage a varied caseload effectively and ensure statutory responsibilities are met
• Coordinate and participate in care planning, risk management, placement stability, PEP and review meetings
• Provide children, young people and families with appropriate information, advice and support
• Work collaboratively with parents, guardians, foster carers, residential providers and other professionals involved in a child’s care
• Contribute to court-related work, including matters relating to revocation of care orders, Special Guardianship Orders (SGO) and placement order applications
• Participate in the team’s duty system
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic case records and documentation
• Work effectively with partner agencies and professionals to safeguard children and promote positive outcomes
• Ensure children’s voices, wishes and feelings are appropriately considered throughout assessment, planning and review processes
• Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and risks
• Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with statutory requirements, Council policies and professional standards

Requirements:

• Recognised Social Work qualification
• Current Social Work England (SWE) registration
• Relevant experience working within Children’s Social Care
• Experience working with Children Looked After / Looked-After Children is highly desirable
• Experience working within a statutory children’s social work environment
• Good understanding of safeguarding and statutory children’s social care procedures
• Experience managing a caseload and completing assessments, care planning and statutory visits
• Strong knowledge of care planning and pathway planning
• Experience working collaboratively with children, families, carers and partner agencies
• Ability to undertake court-related work where required
• Strong written, verbal communication and report-writing skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure
Full UK driving licence
Access to your own vehicle and ability to travel throughout Shropshire as required
• Ability to work effectively within a hybrid working arrangement, including attendance at The Guildhall in Shrewsbury
