About the Role:
Enfield Council is embracing a modern hybrid working approach, providing flexibility to work from home while maintaining collaborative office-based working. With a new senior leadership team driving positive transformation, this is an exciting opportunity to join a proactive, supportive, and forward-thinking finance function.
As a Corporate Accountant, you will report directly to the Deputy Chief Accountant and play a pivotal role in strengthening financial reporting, enhancing financial controls, and supporting key finance initiatives across the organisation. This role offers excellent exposure to high-profile accounting areas and the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement within a large and diverse local authority.
Hybrid Working:
Currently, office attendance is required twice per month, in line with corporate requirements, which may be subject to change.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Manage and support the Councilβs fixed asset accounting function, a key and high-profile area of responsibility
β’ Assist with the annual closure of accounts and strengthen financial controls and processes
β’ Lead on IFRS 16 lease accounting, ensuring robust governance and supporting documentation
β’ Support the oversight of Property, Plant & Equipment (PPE) financial processes
β’ Ensure compliance with IFRS requirements and the CIPFA Code of Practice
β’ Provide financial advice, insight, and support to services across the Council
β’ Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting, controls, and processes
β’ Contribute to the development of best practice financial management across the organisation
Requirements:
β’ CCAB or CIMA qualified, or part-qualified with active progression towards qualification
β’ Strong experience in financial accounting, particularly fixed asset accounting
β’ Sound understanding of IFRS and financial reporting standards
β’ Experience supporting financial year-end processes and account closures
β’ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
β’ Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with complex financial data
β’ Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
β’ Local government finance experience is desirable but not essential
β’ Ability to build effective working relationships across a large organisation
