About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Principal Integrated Transport Officer to join a forward-thinking local authority in Herefordshire. This influential role will play a key part in delivering innovative transport solutions that improve connectivity, support economic growth, promote active travel, and contribute to healthier, greener communities.

Working within the Transport Planning Team, you will help shape the future of sustainable travel across the county, leading the delivery of integrated transport initiatives and active travel infrastructure projects that support residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

This is an excellent opportunity for a transport professional looking to make a lasting impact through high-profile projects, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the delivery of integrated transport priorities within the Local Transport Plan
• Drive forward the Local Cycling, Walking and Wheeling Infrastructure Plan (LCWWIP)
• Identify and secure external funding opportunities and develop successful funding bids
• Build strong partnerships with Active Travel England, transport providers, stakeholders, and community groups
• Commission, manage, and oversee consultants and transport-related projects
• Provide expert transport advice to senior officers and elected members
• Engage with local communities to develop transport solutions that reflect local priorities
• Support and mentor colleagues while contributing to a collaborative team culture
• Shape transport strategies that promote sustainable and active travel choices
• Ensure transport priorities support wider council objectives including economic growth, public health, climate change, and accessibility

Requirements:
• Degree-level qualification (or equivalent experience) in Transport Planning, Planning, Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline
• Relevant professional qualification or working towards one
• Experience in transport planning, active travel delivery, or transport policy development
• Strong understanding of national transport policy, funding mechanisms, and active travel initiatives
• Experience managing projects, budgets, and external consultants
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and partnership-building skills
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities
• Ability to influence decision-makers and drive projects forward
• Collaborative and positive approach to teamwork and service delivery
• Passion for creating sustainable, accessible, and connected communities
