About the Role:

Supply Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Technical Scientific Officer to join a dedicated Environmental Health and Regulatory Services team in North London.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health, Science, or Pollution Control professional to contribute to protecting public health, safety, and environmental wellbeing across the borough. The successful candidate will provide technical and professional support, undertake inspections and investigations, assist businesses in meeting their legal obligations, and support the council in fulfilling its statutory duties.

The role offers exposure to a wide range of environmental and regulatory activities, including pollution control, air quality, contaminated land, acoustic monitoring, complaint investigations, and enforcement support.

Key Responsibilities:

β€’ Provide high-quality professional and technical advice to residents, businesses, councillors, senior managers, solicitors, surveyors, architects, and other stakeholders.
β€’ Deliver regulatory and environmental health services in accordance with legislation, codes of practice, council policies, and professional standards.
β€’ Conduct inspections, audits, surveys, investigations, site visits, and alternative enforcement activities.
β€’ Investigate complaints and service requests, gather evidence, prepare reports, and recommend appropriate actions.
β€’ Monitor assigned districts and identify regulatory issues, trends, and risks.
β€’ Undertake research and specialist work relating to air quality, air pollution, acoustics, scheduled B LAPPC processes, and contaminated land.
β€’ Maintain accurate records, evidence, intelligence, and data in accordance with legal and data protection requirements.
β€’ Prepare reports, briefing notes, statements, and legal documentation where required.
β€’ Appear as a witness at Court, Tribunals, or other statutory hearings when necessary.
β€’ Manage a personal caseload and ensure records are maintained to service standards and statutory requirements.
β€’ Review and comment on low-level applications, plans, reports, and environmental submissions.
β€’ Undertake health promotion and educational activities within the community.
β€’ Install, operate, and maintain environmental monitoring equipment where required.
β€’ Support the training and development of students, apprentices, and colleagues.
β€’ Attend meetings, working groups, exhibitions, demonstrations, and public engagement events.
β€’ Undertake occasional out-of-hours work as required.
β€’ Liaise with internal departments, partner organisations, businesses, and external stakeholders to support service delivery.
β€’ Keep up to date with relevant legislation, policies, and professional developments.
β€’ Adhere to the Assurance Investigators Code of Ethics and all council policies.

Requirements:

β€’ Successful completion (or imminent completion) of an Environmental Health, Science Degree, or Science Postgraduate MSc qualification.

OR

β€’ Demonstrable professional experience in a relevant environmental specialism together with a degree or vocational qualification related to pollution control.

β€’ Fully qualified EHORB registered and eligible for Corporate Membership of the CIEH (Environmental Health Officer) – desirable.
β€’ Knowledge of relevant legislation, enforcement powers, codes of practice, policies, and guidance applicable to the service area.
β€’ Understanding of enforcement procedures and regulatory compliance activities.
β€’ Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
β€’ Ability to prepare accurate reports and legal documentation.
β€’ Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
β€’ Experience using specialist data management systems and maintaining accurate records.
β€’ Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines.
β€’ Ability to work independently and use initiative in managing complex casework.
β€’ Flexible and adaptable approach to changing priorities.
β€’ Ability to meet the travel requirements of the role.
β€’ Full UK Driving Licence desirable.
