About the Role:
We are currently working with a local authority client in Leicestershire who is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to join them on a temporary contract. This is a key leadership role within their operational services team, offering a strong mix of strategic oversight and hands-on fleet management responsibility.

Reporting to the Head of Contracts, you will lead on all aspects of fleet operations, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and continuous improvement across the service. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong public sector or large-scale fleet experience and a proactive, solutions-focused approach.

Key Responsibilities:
β€’ Provide strategic leadership across all fleet operations, ensuring full compliance with vehicle standards, roadworthiness, MOT scheduling, and driver documentation
β€’ Develop and implement fleet strategies to minimise downtime and optimise performance
β€’ Oversee audits, compliance reporting, and evidence submissions
β€’ Manage vehicle maintenance, servicing, and repairs with internal teams and external suppliers
β€’ Deliver compliance briefings, toolbox talks, and refresher training programmes
β€’ Analyse fleet data and performance trends to support continuous improvement
β€’ Manage budgets, control costs, and ensure financial efficiency
β€’ Oversee accident reporting, insurance claims, and risk mitigation strategies
β€’ Drive sustainability initiatives, including transitioning to low-emission vehicles
β€’ Lead fleet procurement and lifecycle management, ensuring value for money
β€’ Maintain robust driver compliance frameworks (training, licence checks, assessments, monitoring)
β€’ Oversee grey fleet compliance and driver-related policies, including Drug & Alcohol testing programmes
β€’ Ensure secure handling of information in line with council policies

Requirements:
β€’ Proven experience in fleet management within a public sector or large-scale environment
β€’ Strong knowledge of fleet compliance, regulations, and health & safety standards
β€’ Experience managing budgets, procurement, and supplier relationships
β€’ Ability to analyse data and drive performance improvements
β€’ Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
β€’ Proactive and strategic mindset with a focus on sustainability and efficiency
