About the Role:
I am currently recruiting for an experienced Homelessness & Housing Solutions Officer to join Bromsgrove District and Redditch Borough Council on an initial 3-month contract, with the potential for extension.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced housing professional with strong knowledge of homelessness legislation and a proven ability to manage complex caseloads while delivering high-quality, compliant housing advice and solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Deliver high-quality homelessness prevention, housing advice, and housing solutions services with a strong customer focus
β’ Manage a designated caseload of homelessness applications, undertaking thorough assessments and applying current case law to reach robust legal decisions
β’ Produce accurate, well-evidenced reports to ensure decisions are legally sound and compliant with statutory requirements
β’ Arrange suitable temporary accommodation for applicants where the Council has a statutory duty, ensuring placements meet individual needs and legislative requirements
β’ Maintain prudent financial control when managing temporary accommodation placements and grant funding
β’ Support colleagues involved in temporary accommodation management, including monitoring licence agreements, breaches, charges, and welfare benefit issues
β’ Work collaboratively with internal teams, external agencies, and partners to deliver sustainable housing solutions
β’ Develop and maintain effective relationships with private sector landlords to support homelessness prevention and access to private rented accommodation
β’ Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records to support performance monitoring, auditing, and statutory reporting
β’ Keep up to date with relevant housing legislation, codes of guidance, case law, and best practice
β’ Contribute to service performance monitoring and proactively identify risks, service improvements, and development opportunities
β’ Prepare reports and provide statistical or operational information when required by management or other Council departments
β’ Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with council policies, procedures, financial regulations, and data protection requirements
β’ Maintain effective partnership working with internal teams, external agencies, and service partners
β’ Ensure safe working practices and effective risk management in service delivery
Requirements:
β’ Minimum of 3 yearsβ experience working in Homelessness and Housing Solutions within a local authority setting
β’ Strong knowledge and practical experience of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended)
β’ Experience assessing homelessness applications and making legally robust decisions
β’ Ability to manage complex caseloads and deliver high-quality housing advice and housing options
β’ Experience working within statutory frameworks including safeguarding, welfare reform, and related housing legislation
