About the Role:
Supply Care Solutions is currently recruiting for an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) / Child Protection Conference Chair on behalf of Suffolk County Council. This is an excellent opportunity to join the Safeguarding and Reviewing Officer Service, which operates across Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft. The service plays a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding practice for children in care and those subject to child protection plans.
As an Independent Reviewing Officer / Child Protection Conference Chair, you will be responsible for the effective delivery of safeguarding services across the county while working within the Suffolk Signs of Safety and Wellbeing Practice Framework, supporting strong practice development, family engagement and positive outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities:
• Chair Children in Care Reviews and Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences
• Scrutinise care plans and child protection plans, ensuring actions are progressed and children’s safety remains paramount
• Provide strategic oversight and work closely with operational management across Children and Young People’s Services
• Produce reports and analytical feedback on safeguarding practice to directorate management
• Demonstrate effective multi-agency partnership working
• Ensure compliance with statutory standards and operational requirements
• Participate in collaborative audit programmes
• Undertake Regulation 44 visits to children’s homes and report on safeguarding effectiveness
• Chair and attend meetings across various locations within Suffolk
Requirements:
• Recognised Social Work qualification
• Registered with Social Work England
• Substantial management-level experience within Children’s Services
• Significant experience working within Children in Care and Child Protection services
• Strong knowledge of current legislation, statutory guidance and safeguarding research
• Ability to ensure the voice of the child and family remains central to planning and review processes
• Strong analytical, reporting and multi-agency working skills
