About the Role:
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Valuation Surveyor to support a Local Authority’s Commercial Property function in Coventry. This role is fully focused on the delivery of the Council’s annual property asset valuation programme, covering a substantial commercial investment portfolio alongside a large operational property portfolio.

Valuations are undertaken by external agents, and the postholder will play a critical role in the check and challenge process, ensuring all valuations meet professional standards, accurately reflect Council records, and comply with agreed valuation methodologies and governance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
• Carry out the check and challenge process for asset valuations submitted by external valuers across both investment and operational portfolios
• Review and validate all valuation input data, ensuring accuracy and consistency with Council property records
• Assess valuation methodologies and assumptions, identifying discrepancies or issues requiring clarification or amendment
• Liaise directly with external valuers, ensuring all correspondence is fully documented within the designated check and challenge system
• Formally approve valuations once all issues have been resolved to a satisfactory standard
• Undertake additional investment portfolio work as required, including:
• Rent reviews
• Lease renewals
• Reviewing datasets
• Updating the Council’s property management database

Requirements:
• MRICS qualification (essential)
• Strong working knowledge of valuation methodologies for both investment and operational property assets
• Proven experience delivering or supporting asset valuation programmes, ideally within:
• A local authority or public-sector organisation, or
• A private practice commercial valuation environment
• Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical capability, and confidence to challenge professional valuations constructively

Working Arrangements:
• Hybrid working – minimum of 2 days per week in the Coventry office
• Full time – 37 hours per week
