About the Role:
We are currently recruiting for an experienced and motivated Housing Officer to join a private sector housing provider in the North East on a 6-month locum contract, with a strong likelihood of extension.
This role is ideal for professionals experienced in intensive housing management, tenancy sustainment, and supporting vulnerable tenants to achieve positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Service Delivery:
β’ Conduct resident sign-ups, explain occupancy agreements, and issue keys and handbooks
β’ Ensure tenants have a clear understanding of their terms and conditions
β’ Support residents with Housing Benefit and Universal Credit claims
β’ Provide advice on rent arrears, tenancy sustainment, and debt management
β’ Manage and respond to issues such as anti-social behaviour, abandonment, and court proceedings
β’ Offer resettlement advice and guidance on move-on housing options
β’ Raise and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with policy
β’ Coordinate and support residents in shared housing/HMOs, including communal duties and meetings
Performance & Property Management:
β’ Maintain accurate and audit-ready records using Pyramid/MIS systems
β’ Conduct regular property inspections, logging and reporting issues with photographic evidence
β’ Oversee building safety, maintenance tasks, and equipment ordering
β’ Review risk assessments and management plans regularly (minimum every 3 months or post-incident)
β’ Contribute to achieving Tenant Satisfaction Measures and improving Tenant Perception Survey outcomes
Requirements:
β’ Previous experience in housing management, ideally within supported or social housing
β’ Strong understanding of tenancy law, housing benefit systems, and safeguarding procedures
β’ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
β’ Ability to manage multiple cases with accuracy, empathy, and professionalism
β’ Confident working independently while contributing to a collaborative team
