About the Role:
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Policy Planner to join Brentwood Borough Council on an agency cover basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work on nationally significant infrastructure projects and shape key planning policies at the local level. The role requires technical expertise, autonomy, and the ability to coordinate effectively across internal teams and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead Brentwood Council’s participation in the Norwich to Tilbury Development Consent Order (DCO) Examination in Public
• Represent the Council at hearing sessions and prepare formal submissions to appointed inspectors
• Provide regular updates to senior officers and elected members
• Coordinate the Council’s response to the Lower Thames Crossing DCO approved scheme, including reviewing key planning documents and S106 agreements
• Oversee the Gypsy and Traveller Policy development in line with statutory and planning requirements
• Contribute to planning applications related to Gypsy and Traveller communities
• Support governance and allocation of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and S106 developer contributions
• Assist in developing and adopting the Infrastructure Investment Plan

Requirements:
• Strong understanding of strategic planning and DCO processes
• Proven experience representing local authorities in public examinations or hearings
• Knowledge of Gypsy and Traveller planning policy
• Familiarity with CIL and S106 frameworks, governance, and investment planning
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality work under pressure
