About the Role:

This is a high-impact leadership role within the Children’s Services directorate, offering the opportunity to shape and influence key services that support children in care, care leavers, foster carers, adopters, and residential care settings. You’ll play a vital role in maintaining compliance, driving performance, and ensuring every child receives the support they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities Include: 

Children in Care & Care Leavers: Overseeing care planning, permanency, and smooth transitions into adulthood, ensuring a child-centered approach at every stage.

Fostering & Adoption: Leading strategy, recruitment, assessment, and support for foster carers and adopters, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and national best practice.

Residential Services: Managing the council’s residential home, maintaining high standards of care and full regulatory compliance.

Performance & Quality Assurance: Developing and executing improvement plans aligned with Ofsted expectations; using audits, data, and feedback to drive service excellence.

Workforce Development & Leadership: Providing visible and supportive leadership, nurturing professional development, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement.

Budget & Resource Management: Maintaining financial oversight, ensuring efficient use of resources, and identifying opportunities for additional funding.

About You: 

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
  • Significant experience in senior leadership roles within Children’s Services
  • Strong understanding of statutory responsibilities across child protection, fostering, adoption, and care leaver support
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, performance improvement, and quality assurance
  • Skilled at building effective partnerships with internal teams and external agencies, including courts and safeguarding boards 
  • Experience managing budgets and ensuring cost-effective, impactful service delivery
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to lead, inspire, and influence others
