Hourly Rate: £34 per hour (Umbrella)
Office Requirement: Minimum 3 days per week in the office
About the Role:
Suffolk County Council is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Social Worker to join our countywide UASC Leaving Care Team. This team plays a vital role in supporting and accommodating unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) who have arrived in Suffolk, either spontaneously or via the National Transfer Scheme (NTS). As a Social Worker in this team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective transition of UASC into adulthood, supporting them through their immigration journey, and helping them navigate the complex systems that impact their lives.
You will work closely with other professionals, including Immigration Solicitors, Education providers, and Health services, to ensure our UASC clients receive the care and support they need to thrive in the UK. Your role will include managing a caseload of UASC, undertaking statutory duties, and facilitating the transition of clients to a Person Advisor as they approach the age of 18.
Key Responsibilities:
Statutory Duties: Undertake statutory child in care duties, including reviews (CIC reviews), Personal Education Plans (PEPs), and Section 47 enquiries.
Caseload Management: Manage a caseload of UASC until their 18th birthday, ensuring their needs are met and their asylum applications are submitted to the Home Office.
Immigration Support: Advocate for clients in immigration matters, working closely with immigration solicitors and other professionals to ensure legal requirements are met.
Appointments and Referrals: Organise and attend appointments with immigration solicitors, educational providers, and health services to ensure the UASC’s needs are comprehensively met.
Carer & Housing Coordination: Serve as a key link between UASC and their foster carers or housing providers, ensuring a smooth transition to independence.
Transition to Person Advisor: Organise the transfer of clients to a Person Advisor near their 18th birthday, ensuring a seamless handover of responsibilities and that all necessary referrals are submitted (e.g., housing, benefits).
Skills and Experience Required:
Qualified Social Worker: You must be a qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England.
Experience: Experience working with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children or young people, including statutory child in care duties, is highly desirable.
Strong Advocacy Skills: Ability to advocate effectively on behalf of young people, particularly in immigration and legal matters.
Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with various agencies and stakeholders, including Immigration, Education, and Health services.
Organisational Skills: Ability to manage a caseload and prioritise tasks efficiently, ensuring compliance with deadlines and statutory obligations.
