Rate: £42 per hour (Umbrella)
Work Schedule:
Hybrid – In-office required every 3 weeks for team duty week

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a Social Worker to join the Assessment Service team at Peterborough City Council. As a Social Worker in this role, you will carry a diverse caseload that reflects increasing complexity, risk, uncertainty, and challenge. This position requires a minimum of one year’s post-qualification experience in a social work role. Regular supervision will be provided in accordance with departmental policies to support your development and ensure best practices.

You will be expected to work collaboratively with children, young people, and their families to assess their needs, plan services, and provide effective interventions in line with social work standards, policy, and procedure.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Client Engagement: Build effective relationships with children, young people, and families to identify their needs, understand their views, and ensure they actively participate in decision-making.
  • Assessments: Undertake assessments in line with statutory, regulatory, and operational standards, focusing on safeguarding children and young people.
  • Planning & Interventions: Plan, implement, and review a range of interventions tailored to children, young people, and families, in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Workload Management: Independently manage a varied caseload, seeking support and offering solutions when faced with challenges or workload difficulties.
  • Supervision & Reflection: Make proactive use of supervision to support effective practice, reflect on professional development, and meet Performance Development Review objectives.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and reports that are clear, concise, and meet the council’s standards for confidentiality and data protection.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues and partner organisations to assess needs, plan interventions, and promote positive change and independence for children and families.
  • Equality & Diversity: Act in line with the council’s Equal Opportunities Policy, challenging and reporting any discriminatory or oppressive behaviour towards colleagues or service users.
  • Professional Standards: Adhere to the Professional Capabilities Framework, meeting the expectations for Social Worker level and maintaining your registration with the HCPC.

Qualifications/Skills Required:

  • Social Work England Registration
  • Minimum of one year’s post-qualification experience in a social work role.
  • Knowledge and experience of current social care legislation and practice standards, including safeguarding and risk assessment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with service users, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Ability to manage a demanding caseload and work independently while seeking supervision and support when needed.
