Role Overview

This Social Worker position focuses on Children in Care, Children’s Safeguarding, and Family Support Services. The role requires experienced social work professionals skilled in complex case management, child protection, and family-centered interventions. The postholder will carry a varied caseload with a focus on complex assessments, evidence-based interventions, and the provision of high-quality care recommendations in line with safeguarding standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Caseload Management: Handle a range of cases with varying complexity, prioritizing high-risk situations and making informed decisions based on detailed assessments. Provide evidence for legal proceedings as needed.
• Risk Assessment and Decision-Making: Demonstrate expertise in risk assessment and exercise professional judgment confidently in complex and high-stakes situations, often acting autonomously to determine the most appropriate interventions.
• Intervention Planning: Assess and respond effectively to children’s and families’ needs, tailoring interventions to support positive outcomes. Utilize professional insight to predict potential developments in cases without bias.
• Knowledge Integration: Incorporate professional expertise, the views of children and families, and evidence-based research into day-to-day practice, ensuring all care decisions are well-informed and aligned with best practices.
• Skill Development and Initiative: Leverage professional knowledge and a proactive approach to explore innovative responses and broaden intervention strategies. Actively develop skills to meet the evolving needs of children in care and safeguarding services.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

• Qualifications:
  • Qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England.
• Experience:
  • Proven experience in children’s social care, with a strong background in managing complex and high-risk cases in a statutory setting.
  • Competence in preparing and presenting detailed assessments and evidence for court proceedings.
• Skills:
  • Excellent judgment and analytical skills, particularly in assessing risk and managing complex, uncertain cases.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills for working with children, families, and multi-agency teams.
  • Ability to integrate a range of perspectives and evidence into high-quality, person-centered practice.

Additional Information

This is a full-time, hybrid role based primarily at Darby House in Telford, with opportunities for remote work as determined by caseload needs and team arrangements. The position requires a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of children and families in Telford & Wrekin.
